Research Equipment Card Game

Mock-up of a quartet card game featuring the ROV Marum Quest 5000

What's it about? - The Research Equipment Card Game

What tools are used for excellent research? What can these devices do, and what do they look like? And which ones are best suited to a particular research question?

The Research Equipment Card Game answers these questions in a playful way. Attractively designed cards characterize research equipment, offering nerdy insights into the daily work of scientists from a wide range of research fields.

The card game vividly illustrates the diversity and detail of research—and the parameters used in its analysis. Furthermore, four devices are grouped together in a meaningful way to unleash their superpower.

The card game is aimed at potential budding nerds who can be introduced to research equipment through the popular game of quartets. It's also, of course, for science enthusiasts of all walks of life.

How can I/our organization participate?

For our card game, we're looking for exciting devices, instruments, and methods from a wide range of scientific fields. We select suggestions from the research community, prepare them accordingly, and add them to the game. This will increase your organization's visibility within the community and among younger target groups.

To participate, please complete this questionnaire and send us up to three high-resolution photos that we can use freely to hello@spreadthenerd.net.

Not all categories will be included on the cards. We will compile suitable devices and categories during the process.

We look forward to your contribution!

Who's behind it?

The project is by Spread the Nerd. We are an agency for creative and visual science communication and format development. The research equipment card game is created from a series of nerdy communication formats that are close to our hearts: COLLAB is a board game designed to foster interdisciplinary collaboration, while the SciComm Format Generator sits on our desks, providing inspiration for communication projects.

Furthermore, we support research-oriented organizations by developing communication strategies, offering consulting, training, and the implementation of communication formats. Our clients include universities, research institutions, foundations, and researchers who want to use innovative communication formats.

We value collaborative partnerships and are pleased to be involved in projects early on, to strategically consider communication from the outset, and thus to give research topics and stakeholders the best possible visibility.
