A voice for persecuted artists

In many countries around the world, artists are threatened or persecuted for critical work. During their time in Germany, the grant holders can work in a safe environment and develop their future prospects.

What happens when they are suddenly given new opportunities to express themselves? For the multimedia portraits, we met the artists in their workspaces and invited them to tell their fascinating stories, to show us their work and explain it to us.

The portraits represent a classic Spread the Nerd team effort. They offer a brief glimpse into the lives, thoughts, and work of the grant holders, while illuminating the important work of the Martin Roth Initiative.
